What is Ravenous?
Ravenous is a worker-owned food and culture website. It’s where you can find thoughtful writing and incisive reporting from around the food world. You can read more about it here.
Why do I need to give you my email to read the site?
Given that Ravenous has no investors or VC backers, we primarily make the money to exist with paid subscriptions. So part of asking for your email is because we hope, after reading the two free stories a month a free subscription entitles you to, you'll so enjoy yourself that you decide to sign up for a paid one.
But mostly, it's about AI. 404 Media has a great rundown of the issue here, but AI bots are scraping human work and republishing it. Requiring an email address helps keep the bots at bay, and ensures our writing isn't plagiarized on some AI slop site. We know it can be a hassle, and we try to make certain articles available for all when we feel it's important. And maybe one day we'll be able to make a living and run an independent publication with a different business model. But for now, we gotta see some ID.

How do I cancel my subscription?
We’d really love it if you stick around, but we understand — sometimes you need to fly the coop. To cancel your subscription, click the account icon on the top right of the homepage. Where it lists your current subscription level, click "Change." Then scroll down and click "Cancel subscription." Or email us at info@weareravenous.com for help.
