Ravenous aspires to be as transparent as possible in our operations. Our workers and freelancers bring their own lived experiences and points of view to their work. Our coverage and opinions cannot be bought. Above all, we strive to create work at a workplace that is equitable, compassionate, and built on trust.
- Comps and gifts: We will never base our coverage or opinions on comped meals. We do not trade invitations or comped meals for coverage. Press invitations will only support our reporting and general knowledge gathering, and we will always disclose when we have accepted an invite.
- Sources: On the occasion that a source requests to remain anonymous for their safety, and we agree to provide that anonymity. We will verify their identity and vow to protect that anonymity moving forward. We will never pay a source for information.
- Outside work: We strive for transparency, and this includes disclosing potential conflicts of interest. We also want our workers to thrive in their careers, and that may include pursuing paid opportunities outside of Ravenous. This outside work may present conflicts of interest, including projects or cookbooks with chefs or restaurants. Those circumstances won’t require disclosures when they don’t present a conflict. In the instance that it does, that staffer will have zero involvement in coverage of that chef or restaurant, and their outside work will be disclosed. That work will not influence any other colleague’s coverage. Workers will also not accept deals from food or beverage brands.
- AI: We will never use generative AI to write our stories or create our visual or audio content. We also will never use our or our freelancers' work to train generative AI.
- Online conduct: As journalists, we are always in the business of considering how our words impact others. We also live in the world, and encourage our workers and freelancers to participate in their communities and in the politics that shape their lives. We do not expect anyone to abstain from voicing their opinions online. However, Ravenous centers the well-being and safety of historically marginalized communities on the intersectional basis of gender, sex, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, class, disability, and other identities, which will inform our relationships with staffers and freelancers should they reveal themselves to not share those values.
- Advertisements: As a subscriber-funded business, we will not rely on ads to keep the lights on. However, if we do accept ad placement, it will be on the condition that there is a firewall between editorial and the ad content. If we ever decide to explore sponsorships or ads, we'll disclose any and all potential conflicts. We'll never accept sponsorships that would compromise our coverage.
- Corrections: We will do our best to thoroughly edit and fact-check everything we publish, but when we inevitably make a mistake, we will correct the article with a disclosure detailing any changes as quickly as possible.
